Montessori is for every child.

Montessori Public Works (MPW) is a nonprofit services and advocacy organization that provides Montessori curriculum implementation support to New Jersey districts who wish to start high-quality Montessori programs.

Why Montessori?

  • Children in a Montessori classroom are encouraged to move through the curriculum at their own pace which allows for individualized learning to occur. They are presented with individual or small group lessons by teachers who keep track of when a child is ready to move on to the next lesson. This highly personalized learning approach has even been likened to giving an IEP to all students.

  • The Montessori approach values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, and cognitive through concrete experiences. The Montessori method emerges from a belief that children are naturally good, peaceful, and curious, and that in the context of a supportive environment, all children engage instinctively in the work of self-construction.

  • Montessori is a very studied curriculum with great outcomes. In a recently published large study, it showed that Montessori erased the income opportunity gap over the 3-year span. In another, it concluded that adults that attended Montessori schools report long-term elevated psychological health and well-being.
